Duplex Stainless Steel (DSS): The High-Performance Corrosion-Resistant Alloy

Table of Content [Hide]

    What is Duplex Stainless Steel?

Duplex stainless steels (DSS) are a family of high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloys characterized by a dual-phase microstructure—approximately 50% ferrite and 50% austenite (minimum 30% of either phase). This unique structure combines the best properties of both ferritic and austenitic stainless steels, making DSS an ideal choice for demanding industrial applications.

    Popular Grades & Applications

    Standard Duplex (e.g., 2205 / UNS S32205)

Chemical processing, oil & gas pipelines, desalination plants

Pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks

    Super Duplex (e.g., 2507 / UNS S32750)

Offshore platforms, seawater systems, flue gas scrubbers

Highly corrosive environments (H₂S, acids, chlorides)

    Lean Duplex (e.g., 2101 / UNS S32101)

    Structural applications, bridges, construction

Cost-effective alternative to 304/316 where high strength is needed
